How The Weekly Edition Works
The Weekly Edition separates two jobs that most reading apps mix together: deciding what to keep and sitting down to read it.
Incoming email and feeds become paginated books on your device. At the end of the week, the articles you selected become separate Short Reads and Long Reads books. Videos you chose can ship to a playlist you configure.

A few minutes of morning pruning
Section titled “A few minutes of morning pruning”On a phone or other quick device, you spend a short stretch on incoming material:
- Newsletter email destined for The Daily
- RSS and YouTube feeds
- Links you saved elsewhere (typically via Raindrop)
Morning pruning is for making decisions, not finishing every article. You triage: keep, skip, defer (Maybe / TLDR), mark for action, or put something into Next Edition. Progress is page-based so the session can end with a clear stopping point.

Reading later, away from the incoming queue
Section titled “Reading later, away from the incoming queue”Later — on the sofa, on e-ink, or whenever focus is easier — you open the books that were generated for the material you chose.

Generated books can sync through WebDAV when Cloud Storage is configured, so a phone can collect and a reader device can download EPUBs for focused reading.
Reader and Pruner
Section titled “Reader and Pruner”When you use more than one device with WebDAV, each device should declare a usage profile under Settings → Profile Settings:

You can enable one profile or both on a single device. At least one profile must be on. A typical two-device setup is:
- Phone (Pruner): triage feeds and email, queue articles and videos.
- E-ink or tablet (Reader): open Short Reads, Long Reads, Daily books, and other generated editions.
Profiles also keep streak progress honest across devices: a heart on one device marks local progress; a diamond appears when the streak is met across your configured devices.
What happens during the week
Section titled “What happens during the week”During the week, you build a selection rather than carrying every new item forward:
- Articles (and related Raindrop collections such as Maybes, TLDRs, and Actionables) hold decisions you already made.
- Next Edition / the Articles queue is where full articles wait for the weekly books.
- YouTube holds videos you want in the weekend playlist (optional integration).
- The Daily turns newsletter mail into a paced weekday book when email is configured.
- Feed booklets (grouped RSS) appear as you generate them for catch-up reading.
A few minutes of pruning should produce a readable set of books for later.
Closing the week
Section titled “Closing the week”On Sunday (cleanup day), the app surfaces that it is time to close out the week — for example the prompt It’s Sunday, time to clean up house! and the action Ship Weekly Edition.
Ship Weekly Edition is an explicit user action. You run it when you are ready. In the current app it:
- Archives last week’s leftover collections as needed.
- Ships the YouTube queue to your configured playlist (if YouTube is set up).
- Generates this week’s article books from the Articles collection.
- Moves the current queues into last-week storage so the next week starts clean.

Short- and long-article books
Section titled “Short- and long-article books”When weekly articles are generated from the Articles collection, the app builds two reading books for the edition:

Articles are split by length, then ordered with a mix of sources. Book titles are dated for the current weekly edition (week starting Monday).
These books are what a Reader profile device is meant to pull and finish. They are generated when you ship the week, from the selection you made.
What carries over
Section titled “What carries over”By design, the following carry over:
- Queued items in Raindrop collections until you ship or archive them
- Generated EPUBs and reading progress when WebDAV and device profiles are set up
- Feed and OPML configuration once imported
- Appearance choices (for example fonts) for new books after you save them
You remain in control of a few things:
- Ship Weekly Edition (or equivalent generation) is something you run when ready.
- Changing fonts applies to books you generate after the change.
- Summaries for Maybe / TLDR need OpenAI configured; without it those queues still store links, but AI summaries are unavailable.
- Multi-device reading uses WebDAV plus Reader / Pruner profiles — you connect storage you control.
Once that model is clear, the other conceptual pages and setup guides fill in triage labels, email digests, and each connection.
